Mission Statement: Limon Public Schools strives to provide a safe environment and develop responsible and productive citizens who have the knowledge and skills to seize their chosen opportunities.
Annual Accreditation: Each year, the Colorado Department of Education issues a School Report (SAR) for Limon School District. In the report the Limon Elementary (K-5), Limon Junior High School (06-08), and Limon Senior High School (09-12) status and growth data are presented with other district information. The District also prepares an Accreditation Indicator Annual Report for the community. Together, these reports provide information about school performance. The district uses the SAR results to assess and accredit our schools.
Limon School District is fully accredited by the Colorado Department of Education, and each of the three schools in the District made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) on all participation and performance targets established by the "No Child Left Behind" legislation.
Accreditation Process: As indicated on our Annual Accreditation Report from the Colorado Department of Education, "The district is in compliance with the requirements in the Education Accreditation Act through the provision of a school improvement plan that has high goals and performance expectations along with several research-based programs or strategies to improve the academic achievement of all students." These "requirements" include the development of school improvement goals set forth by the Board of Education and closely monitored by the District Accountability Committee and school administration. The district accountability committee annually reviews the schools performance. Each of the three schools are accredited by the district. The district goals for 2008-09 school year are indicated in Table 1.

ASSESSMENT DATA Colorado’s state assessment system includes three different types of assessments to measure student achievement. The main assessment used in the state is the CSAP, which assesses students in reading, writing and math state standards in grades 3 through 10. The CSAP science assessment is also given in 5th, 8th and 10th grade. The second assessment available is for students in third and fourth grade who are receiving instruction in Spanish. The Lectura is the Spanish reading version of the CSAP and the Escritura is the Spanish writing version of the CSAP. These assessments are scored looking at student achievement and growth. The third assessment, the CSAPA (CSAP Alternate), is available for use with students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. It is used to assess reading, writing, math and science content knowledge. Only about 1% of students in Colorado take the CSAPA.

Post Secondary Education Options: Juniors and seniors who qualify may include college classes through Morgan Community College in their schedules. College courses count toward graduation requirements.
Activities Programs: Limon schools have a strong tradition of student involvement in extra-curricular activities. At the elementary level, all students participated in physical education and music, and most fifth grade students were in band as part of the school program. The Limon Children’s Choir for grades 3-5 has over 40 selected students as well. There were three elementary teams that participated in Destination Imagination. Through the town recreation program, elementary students can participate in football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, and baseball. Our secondary school offers students many choices to participate in football, volleyball, basketball, golf, wrestling, track and field, student council, band, choir, knowledge bowl, speech, drama, cheerleading, cross country, softball, and dance.
The trend of success in activities in Limon goes back to the 1930’s, and this trend continues. From 1994 through 2008, the Colorado High School Activities Association has recognized one school in each of the five classifications with the Wells Fargo Cup for its outstanding all-around success in activities. The award could not be given to the same school in consecutive years. Limon High School is the only school in the state to have won this award four times. For the 2A classification, Limon received this award in 1995, 2000, 2002, and 2004. Limon’s Girls Basketball, Speech Team, and Student Council were named CHSAA Academic Team Champions for 2002-2003. In 2006 we were recognized by Mile High Sports Magazine as the #1 Sports Team in Colorado in all divisions and in 2007 we are #2. Limon has won 52 Team Championships and 19 Runner-ups as well as 144 individual state championships. Limon won the Class 2A Sportsmanship State Championship for the 2001-02 school year. Limon prides itself on its strong emphasis on good sportsmanship.
